Marie Copinet Champagne

In the midst of the Marne Valley, in the tiny village of Montgenost, is the estate of Marie Copinet Champagne. Jacques and mum, Brigette have handed the reigns of the estate into her very capable hands, from father to daughter. Along with her husband and cellar master Alexandre, Copinet Champagne is entirely a family affair. With parcels in Montgenost, Villenauxe a Grande, Verpillieres sur Ource, Cuchery and Chantillon sur Marne, complexity is the hallmark of these mineral rich wines.
Marie-Laure and Alexandre, are the steady hands at Marie Copinet Champagne, which is a blend of three harvests, and the result is a wine of sheer excellence. No herbicides or pesticides are used. The estate is certified by Terre Vitis.

Champagne Caractére Rosé NV

Description

50 % Chardonnay, 30 % Rosé de Saignée  Pinot Meunier and 20 % Pinot Noir

“A pretty deep pink for Champagne, almost crushed-tomato-juice colour. Buckets of fresh strawberries on the palate-almost chuckling with the reckless generous summary delight of all those strawberries. Some mint and basil fresh leafiness, and a little dark drop of minerality, as if you were tasting strawberries while sucking on a black pearl straight from an oyster shell. Orange-peel bitters: sumac and caraway spice. A real delight (TC)”

17 out of 20. Jancis Robinson Sept 2021

“Marie Copinet’s salmon colored NV Brut Caractère Rosé is a deep, ripe and vinous Rosé blend based on 50% Chardonnay, 30% Rosé de saignée from Pinot Meunier and 20% Pinot Noir. The wine has a lovely deep and relaxed bouquet of red fruits and red wine along with fruit skin, orange/grapefruit and floral aromas. Medium-bodied, intense and vinous on the palate, this is a seriously structured and persistent pink Champagne with a long, pretty complex and mineral finish.”

Champagne Blanc de Blancs NV

Description

“Pretty if notably restrained aromas combine whiffs of green apple, floral, yeast and plenty of citrus and in particular Meyer lemon. The crisp, intense and delineated flavors are shaped by a relatively fine if firm mousse while delivering quality depth and length on the nicely dry and ever-so-mildly austere finish. This is an understated and cool version of the genre that packs a punch in the best sense of the term. Note that this could be enjoyed now as there is really very good depth or aged for several years.” from 2019+

“This offers a bit more aromatic refinement with a pure and very fresh nose of green apple, white flowers and yeast scents that also exhibit lemon-lime hints. There is good detail to the very crisp, cool and restrained flavors that possess excellent persistence as well as a very fine mousse. A classic blanc de blancs that could be enjoyed now or cellared for a few more years first”

“The citrus-colored NV Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature assembles stainless-steel fermented Chardonnay wines from three harvests, in this case 2010, 2009 and 2008. Disgorged in October 2016, this is an intense yet pure, fresh and vital Brut Nature with a creamy texture characterized by its brioche flavors but also a tight and linear structure that leads to a fresh, clean and pretty persistent finish. White ripe fruits, white flowers, chalk and brioche aromas are displayed on the nose. This is a very elegant, fresh and fine Blanc de Blancs from the chalky slopes of Montgenost and Villenauxe-la-Grande. It should be delicious with oysters, shell fish and certainly sashimi. Champagne Cuvee Mademoisselle Victoire Saignée Rosé

Description

Pinot Noir (80%) Pinot Meunier (20%)

“The intensely salmon colored NV Rosé de Signée Mademoiselle Victoire opens with an intense, complex yet pure, refined, vinous and generously fruity bouquet of fresh cherries and red berries intertwined with brioche, refreshing mineral notes and hints of smoke. Round, fresh and intensely fruity on the palate, with a delicate mousse, good sweet extract and delicately fresh acidity, this is a generous but perfectly dry and well structured Rosé with brioche flavors in the aromatic, still vinous finish. This beautifully mineral Saignée from the Marne Valley blends 80% Pinot Noir with a 20% Pinot Meunier exclusively from the 2012 vintage, with 18 hours of maceration prior to the fermentation.   This cuvée was disgorged as Brut with a moderate dosage of four grams per liter.  It’s a rather full bodied wine to be served with white meat or even fish.” Drink 2017-2027

2015 Coteaux Champenois blanc

Description

Hand harvested by Eric, Yannick, Patrick, Christophe, Jeremy and Matthew in September 2015.  Production is 516 bottles.

20% Pinot Meunier, 45% Chardonnay and 35% Pinot Noir

“The 2015 EA Coteaux Champenois Blanc is a blend of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunieur and Chardonnay that was aged in large foudre for one year before the unfined and unfiltered bottling.  The bouquet is subtle, round and elegant, with good ripeness, some yeasty-creamy bâtonnage notes as well as discreet toasty and refreshing lemon aromas. Lean, fresh and mineral on the palate, this is a light, rather lean but not meager, pretty intense and structured and remarkably persistent finish. Bone dry and with very fine tannins, this is an excellent white with fish and any kind of seafood. Tasted July 2018. Drink 2019 thru 2026.

2015 Coteaux Champenois rouge

Description

Hand harvested by Eric, Yannick, Patrick, Christophe, Jeremy and Matthew in September 2015.  Production is 516 bottles.

“Copinet’s cherry colored 2015 EA Coteaux Champenois Rouge offers a fine, elegant, fruity, toasty and after a while, also floral bouquet that indicates freshness and finesse in equal measure. Beautiful dark cherry and blackthorn intermix with hints of violet and licorice as well as toast and dark chocolate, but everything is discreet and fresh. Smooth and round but dry, fresh and well-structured on the palate, this is full-bodied, intense and very elegant Pinot Noir sourced in a lieu-dit named La Croix Maître Anne. Picked by hand and strictly selected, the wine was aged for 12 months in new 300-liter oak barrels. Showing good, stimulating mineral freshness and fine tannin structure on the finish, this is a remarkably good red wine from the Champagne region.”
