Poggio Mori

Poggio Mori farmhouse

Ancient documents that testify to the existence of a farm with vines and olive groves, owned by the Boninsegni family, date back to the 1700s. More recently, the farm belonged, among others, to the Fanelli family, former owners of the castle of Sarteano, and the Mori family, with the name of which the farm is identified.

In 2006, Vincenzo Poerio began the renovation of re-planting low yielding clones of very high-density. Certified Organically grown, and hand harvested Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cab Franc, with Merlot and Petit Verdot playing complementary roles for elegantly structured red wines. Roussanne, Marsanne, Trebbiano and Malvasia for fresh white wines, and a small quantity of the gem of Tuscany, Vin Santo.

2018 Sertorius

Description

Cabernet Franc (25%), Cabernet Sauvignon (20%), Merlot (50%) and Petit Verdot (5%)

“The 2018 Sertorius is sweetly seductive with a mix of cinnamon and clove, embellishing vivid black cherry. This sweeps across the palate, cool-toned yet potent, with bright acidity motivating its tart wild berry fruits. While lightly structured, the 2018 maintains a pleasantly fresh persona, finishing spicy with a medium length.”

“Cherries, cloves, lemons, bark and plum stones on the nose. Supple and juicy with a medium body, fine tannins and bright acidity. Bright finish. From Organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.”

2019 Poggio Mori IGT Toscano

Description

Merlot (90%), Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot

The 2019 Poggkio Mori, a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc lifts from the glass with a spicy and inviting mix of wild berries, cinnamon sticks and pine shavings. It’s silky-smooth with tart cherry and blueberry notes complicated by savory herbs and clove hints. This leaves a sour citrus tinge while finishing lightly structured yet long. The 2019 does a lovely job coming across as classically dry and poised yet packed full of immediate pleasure.

2019 BludiVigna Chianti Riserva

Description

Sangiovese (85%), Canaiolo and Colorino

“Hailing from the enchanting Etruscan town of Sarteano, the nose on this Chianti is deep and savory, starting with cigar box and tobacco leaf rolling into spicy tomato jam, dried cherries, dried figs and spices. The palate has the crunch of fresh cherries but also balsamic vinegar, tomato leaf and rocks and soil after a rain, with a ribbon of acid fluttering through a full finish.”

90 Points!   Wine Enthusiasts Magazine Danielle Callegari, 1 March 2023

Crushed stone, mint and peppery florals present a lovely introduction to the 2019 Chianti Riserva BludiVigna.  This is racy and cool-toned in feel with juicy acidity and lifting minerality. A hint of sour citrus enlivens the finish as the 2019 finishes fresh yet a bit short.
